The news that British Waterways are conducting a 'make or break' market research survey into the future of canal fishing will be of great interest to local anglers and clubs who lease stretches of this popular fishery, writes Peter Stone.
In April, a National Association of Fisheries and Angling Consultatives survey of 82 clubs blasted BW's attitude towards angling. Said BW marketing manager Sally Ash: "Our concern is that angling is declining, including on our waters, so this angling project is our next step.
"We have a vested interest in revenue but realise that we must make sure that clubs are happy or there won't be any revenue."
Next week, BW will conduct interviews with angling clubs and bodies, then finally a workshop with the 'more constructive' anglers.
