India may soon get its first park and ride scheme modelled on Oxford.
A delegation from New Delhi was in the city yesterday to look at the Oxford Transport Strategy in operation.
The 14-strong group was said to be particularly impressed with the park and ride operations, as well as low-emission buses.
Oxfordshire County Council's chief transport planner, Eddie Luck, said: "New Delhi is, of course, different in many ways to Oxford but they are having major problems with pollution and traffic jams and are looking at the OTS for ideas on how to improve their situation. Car ownership over there is on the increase but their main problem is pollution and the old vehicles they use.
"They were very impressed by OTS and have asked us to send more information to them."
Kanwaljit Deol, New Delhi's police traffic commissioner, said: "I can see that we will face similar problems to Oxford.
