JT\FOX Oxford Cheetahs went down 51-42 to Wolverhampton in the Elite League at a rain-soaked Monmore Green last night.
It was 'one of those nights' for Cheetahs, who suffered six falls or retirements as the track conditions, very poor at the start of the meeting due to rain earlier in the day, got worse in the heavy drizzle.
Things started well enough with Todd Wiltshire and Ales Dryml winning the first two heats, but a retirement from Mark Lemon and a fall by Lukas Dryml meant that it was all square. Things went downhill from there, with Oxford losing the next three heats to leave themselves eight points down.
Guest Jason Lyons sorted out the gremlins from his opening ride and scorched his way to a win in heat six, but once again Lukas Dryml fell and there was no advantage.
A maximum heat win for the Wolves in heat seven saw Cheetahs 12 points adrift and it was all or nothing from Oxford's management in heat eight as Wiltshire came in as a tactical substitute with Lyons on a golden double.
