A town once famous for its blankets served up something completely different for a royal visitor.
The Duke of Kent tasted the very latest and the most traditional of cookery during a trip to Witney yesterday.
He was presented with a pack of Chicken Run muffins after unveiling a new snack production line at the Fabulous Bakin' Boys.
And from there it was on to the town's Cogges Farm Museum to sample gridle scones freshly baked which he declared to be "marvellous". The royal visitor, who spent a day in Oxfordshire, earlier took in a tour of the Unipart works at Cowley and lunch at Oxford Brookes University.
The Duke, accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Hugo Bruner, was served at Cogges by Sheila Harvey.
"We have not had royalty here before, so this was special," she said. "But there was nothing extra special about the scones, just the normal delicious ones which we serve up for visitors." The setting was in contrast to the Station Lane industrial estate factory, home of the Fabulous Bakin' Boys, where the Duke of Kent unveiled a plaque and pushed a button to launch a new 2m production line.
The firm has just won an order for snack products linked to the new Hollywood movie, Chicken Run.
