A councillor was today trying to get plans for a massive 20m Islamic centre back on the agenda even though it's already been approved by her colleagues.
Oxford City Council's lone Tory member, Cllr Barbara Burgess, was urging councillors to reconsider the plans for the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies because of what she said was huge public concern surrounding the scheme. The school has been looking for a new home for the last five years. The council finally gave its backing in May and the decision now lies with John Prescott's Government Office for the South East which is expected to release its conclusion in the next few days if the council does not call the plans back in.
Cllr Burgess said: "Marston residents are absolutely furious that the centre has been given the go-ahead."
