Three elderly tourists two from Abingdon were killed instantly in a head-on crash in Australia.
The three pensioners were driving on the Captain Cook Highway, north Queensland, when their car veered off the road, skidded and smashed into an oncoming vehicle.
The Abingdon couple were Robert Jeremy Sherwood, 75, and his wife, Naomi Margaret Sherwood, 74. They were travelling with their friend Patricia Steynwood Beyger, 80, from Brampton, Cumbria.
The accident happened at about 6.20pm local time last night. A local doctor witnessed the accident from three cars behind, and assisted a woman and five children, aged between two and 15, who were injured in the second car.
They were all conveyed by ambulance to Mossman hospital suffering various chest and internal injuries, a police spokesman said.
