Thame Millennium Festival organisers are having to dig deep into their own pockets to meet losses made by the nine-day event.
Chairman John Day said: "We have agreed not to say how much money is involved. But it is a substantial amount for each member of the Thame in 2000 Committee." He said he was deeply disappointed that the events were not better supported.
"People in Thame seem reluctant to pay for anything. I am not bitter about that, but I am disappointed. Yet we did it, I'm glad we did it, the performers and the people taking part enjoyed it and it was a good week."
He said that ticket sales should have easily balanced the books and profits were expected. The festival needed 300 people at each evening event, but the numbers failed to turn up.
