Village ducks could soon be safe from foxes, cats and rats if a new refuge is approved, writes Ian Townsend.
The refuge is planned for the middle of the pond outside Haddenham Parish Church, but parish councillors are unsure whether to back the idea.
Environmental committee chairman Enid Robinson said: "We are worried a refuge in the middle could damage the pond's liner. The 22ft by 20ft refuge suggested would be too big." The refuge idea has come from naturalist Diana Alderson who wants to save the ducklings from predators. She believes they would be safer from cats, rats and foxes on a pond-centre island. Councillors will meet Miss Alderson to look at her ideas on site before making a decision.
Haddenham is famous for its ducks and was a noted area for breeding Aylesbury ducks.
