TV company The Oxford Channel has gone off the air.
Staff have been laid off as the new owners make plans for the future of the station, based in Woodstock Road, Oxford.
The channel was taken over earlier this week by the Milestone Group, which describes itself as "a local multimedia group with television, radio, print and new media interests". It bought a controlling interest in Oxford Broadcasting Ltd through its subsidiary Aroma Television. The TV station, which broadcasts on channel six, said the move secured the future of free-to-air terrestrial television in Oxfordshire.
Programmes have been suspended while the new owners prepare for "an exciting new era with an innovative, stimulating mix of programmes".
A notice on the screen reads: "We are currently launching an exciting new local television station for Oxfordshire. Our service will include all your favourite programmes plus national and international news, lifestyle, sport, weather and interactive shopping."
