Oxfordshire Under 19s' hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals of the ECB Competition were dashed yesterday when Buckinghamshire pulled off an unlikely two innings victory over Herefordshire at Ross-on-Wye.
Oxon, whose match with Bucks had been a rain-affected draw, were firm favourites to top the group as Bucks needed to bowl out Herefordshire twice over the two days.
Bucks eventually set their opponents 209 for victory in the second innings and bowled them out for 164 with four overs to spare.
Bucks now now play a first-class county in the quarter-final at Stowe School, Buckingham next Thursday.
"I'm bitterly disappointed," said Oxfordshire manager Neil Pearson on hearing the result. "We've got a very strong side this year and I really fancied our chances."
