England schoolboy international Tim Parker was in record form as he spreadeagled a 90-strong field to win the club championship at the Springs club, near Wallingford.

Following a first round of 75, the 16-year-old, from Didcot, stunned his opponents with a second-round level-par 71 to finish with a two-round total score of 146. His second round also set a new course record for an amateur.

He now has his sights on the 66 record of professional Paul Simpson - set in the recent Pro-Am event.

Parker overturned a first-round deficit of one shot to finish four shots ahead of Denis Lowes (74 & 76), who had to be content with the runners-up trophy for the second year running.

Playing off a handicap of 18, Didcot's Mark Brogden celebrated his late qualification for the championship by edging out Maurice Digby with the best nett score of 133

Not to be outdone, Ewelme's Yvonne Peek won the ladies crown for the third year in succession with rounds of 83 and 91 (174), holding off a strong challenge from Jacquie Pritchard (Chalgrove) who finished on 179 (89 & 90).

Davey Jones (Ewelme) was another champion successfully to defend a title on a long day of golf. He won the Springs Plate for the second year in a row.
