A new campaign is urging youngsters to take pride in their town.

Witney Town Council is already working with primary schools with its annual Schools in Bloom Competition and now plans to set up a fund to kickstart more environmental projects in schools.

Technical officer Henry Westbury said: "Their school grounds are now litter-free and dotted with flowers, trees, shrubs and in some cases areas for vegetables. The infectious pride and energy of these young people clearly deserves the recognition and support of the community at large who will reap the benefit of this growing transformation."

Town mayor Louise Chapman, is looking for co-sponsors for the camapign.

She said: "Witney does need future citizens who care about our town.

"The philosophy behind this initiative is that funding now will be rewarded by reduced levels of vandalism and untidiness in the future."
