FREELAND'S run in the Sun Life of Canada Under 15s cricket competition came to an end in the regional finals' semi-final at Moseley, Birmingham.
But it was a cruel exit for the west Oxfordshire lads.
The day started badly with the coach late arriving the driver heading for the wrong Moseley and in the semi-finals against Shrewsbury, Freeland felt they were on the wrong end of a controversial umpiring decision.
The umpire gave Stuart Hole out following an obvious bump ball in the third over.
This totally deflated the side and they were bowled out for the first time in four years for 90. Only Andy Hemming with 32 and a brave knock of 19 by Neil Rose helped the team to at least achieve respectability.
Shrewsbury took advantage of Freeland's lack of confidence to win by eight wickets.
In the play-off section, Freeland took on Uppingham (Leicestershire) who beat them by 12 runs.
On a very small pitch, Uppingham scored a tremendous 140-5.
Freeland started with a bang Stuart Hole and Martin Davie putting on 40 in four overs for the first wicket. Davie and Andy Hemming then added 59 for the third wicket before Freeland lost a further six wickets for only 20. The score went from 108-2 from 14 overs to 128-9 at the close.
The final of the competition, which had seen 1500 entries, was won by Diss (Norfolk).
