She's one in a million and Jacqui Polley is off on a VIP holiday after scooping top prize in the Oxford Mail's supermum competition.

Scores of children nominated their mums for the title but Jacqui's devotion to her family finally won over the judges. Now she's off on a five-day VIP trip to Philadelphia and hopes to take 18-year-old daughter Shanie, who suffers from cystic fibrosis with her.

It was Shanie who put forward the nomination to say thanks for Jacqui's devotion to her and sister Lianne, 19, who lost her battle against cystic fibrosis earlier this year. Lianne underwent a heart and lung transplant two years before her death. Jacqui, 44, of Humber Close, Didcot, said: "I can't believe that I have won. Of course, winning the competition will not bring back Lianne and I will be putting the flowers I received on her grave.''

The family, which also includes Jacqui's husband Clive and their son Jordan, 11, have collected more than 2,000 in donations which will help other cystic fibrosis sufferers.

In her letter of nomination Shanie wrote:

"My mum means the world to me and without her there is no point in living. I can't praise my mum enough.

"I'm sure every mother deserves this award but have they been through the stress and trauma that my mum has?" Pat Brumfitt, of Wallingford, Kath Fry, of Kidlington, Teresa Funge, of Wheatley and Shirley Keene, of Berinsfield, were also shortlisted for the award.
