Classic car driver Bryan Read, of Didcot, made a splash on the National Motor Museum's Michael Sedgwick Run on the Isle of Wight, writes David Duffy.
Driving a 1929 Morris Cowley Doctor's Coupe, he won a prize in the popular period costume competition which attracted more than 60 pre-1961 cars. Among the variety of cars taking part were a 1920 Renault Tourer, a 1946 Lea-Francis saloon, a 1960 TVR Grantura and a rare 1958 Morris half-ton pick-up truck. Participants were treated to an 85-mile tour of the Island and the route highlighted sites of interest.
The route, which took cars off main roads and deep into the heart of the island, included a lunchtime visit to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, where local club 'The Isle of Wight Austins' were holding a classic car show of more than 60 vehicles.
The Run finished at Calbourne Mill, where prizes were given away. Quiz winners were given trophies, divided into pre-and post-war classes. Winner of the Long Distance Award was Michael Gough, who drove from Aberystwyth in his 1959 Standard 10. The Michael Sedgwick Cup was won by Rodney Lock from Winchester in his 1939 Morris Series E Tourer.
