Branching out with Bellamy
Ford has teamed up with conservationist David Bellamy to help the fight to restore the native elm to Britain's countryside. Ford has agreed to a four-year deal to support the Conservation Foundation's work to grow and distribute elm cuttings nationwide.
Magic mirrors
A device to help drivers of right-hand-drive cars overtake in safety while driving on the Continent is being marketed in the UK by Abingdon-based Maryland Marketing Associates. The Co-Pilot System uses two mirrors, which are fitted to the inside of the car's windscreen, allowing the driver to see ahead before pulling out to overtake. It is available by mail order for 14.99. Special edition
Proton has launched a new limited edition of the Wira 1.5 LXi 'S' LE four-door, priced at 7,999 on the road. A five-door version is also available at the same price. The firm is also marketing 1.6-litre versions with anti-lock braking systems at 9,299. Just 500 of the limited edition cars will be sold in the UK.
Turbo power
Audi has introduced two new turbo-diesel engines, one a 1.9-litre model for the A4 and a 2.5-litre V6 for the A6 saloon and Avant.The A4 1.9 TDI SE saloon costs 20,850 and the Avant 22,107 and the A6 2.5 TDI quattro Sport is priced at 29,250 for the saloon and 30,400 for the Avant.
New oils
BP has launched a new new range of fully synthetic engine oils. Developed in partnership with Volkswagen and Audi, BP says the new Visco 7000 oils offer superior cold weather starting, greater protection for high performance engines and prolong battery life, as well as cutting harmful emissions.
Eating out
The car accessory company Summit Automotive, of Banbury, has produced a range of accessories to help people picnic in their car. A sandwich holder and handy holder sell for about 2 and a snack tray with cup holder costs about 9.20. A 12-volt car kettle costs about 16.75.
Italian job
Alfa Romeo is extending the 156 range in the UK with the launch of a 13, 875 120 horsepower, 1.6-litre version, the 124mph 156 1.6 TS.
