PALL Mall champion El Boss will be out to prove he is the guvnor once again when he lines in the RD Racing Gold Cup which gets under way at Oxford Stadium on Tuesday.

No-one will forget the starring role he played for Italian film producer Mario Lanfranchi here in March, and he will be one of the leading candidates to double up in the Gold Cup, which carries 2,500 to the winner.

Since his March triumph at Sandy Lane, El Boss has landed the Scurry Gold Cup and will be sent here in tip top condition by trainer Linda Mullins.

Lanfranchi will also be represented by El Tango, and this one under the expert guidance of Nick Savva, should also command support.

Other familiar names on parade include Wath Serenade, runner-up in the Scottish Derby, Masters champion Jicky and Reactabond Slick, while local handler Graham Holland tracks a real handful.

Among them are Outlaw Spice Boy, Laka Long Valley and Tolpuddle Gizmoe.

There will be plenty of support for Oxford's top dog, Brendans Gold, winner of six of his last eight open races, the last being here on Tuesday in the Trial Stakes when he posted the fastest time of 27.11.

That was just one spot quicker than Cool Wind, trained by David Egan, who won his race in 27.12.

And Tolpuddle Gizmoe made it a hat-trick of successes for local handlers.

One of Savva's top runners, Larkhill Bobby, also lines up along with Elliots Pride, another strong fancy from former Oxford trainer Tony Meek.

Local hopes include Ian Wills's Go Go Zodiac, Steve Davis's Fermoy Jack and Hot To Touch, Angie Kibble's Unique Winner and Ron Bicknell's Maggies Star.
