Oxford City 0, Uxbridge 1 City got their Ryman Division 1 programme got off to a disappointing start when a defensive mistake enabled workmanlike Uxbridge to collect maximum points.
Matty Whitehead and Andy Smith went close to opening City's account early on, while Dawson in the visitors' goal was out quickly to thwart Shaun Wimble.
Just before half-time, home keeper Alan Foster just beat Ryder to a dangerous cross from Tunnell.
Dwaine Strong was always a threat to Uxbridge and only a last-ditch tackle from Weedon denied him in the 48th minute.
A minute later, City were behind when a long ball evaded Julian Dark and Tunnell lobbed over a stranded Foster. Moore wasted a good chance to increase the visitors' lead and, as City pushed forward, two good crosses from Strong came to nothing.
City's lack of fire-power up front was again all too evident when splendid approach work by young substitute Jermaine Ferreria twice opened up the visitors' defence, yet the chances came to nothing.
Oxford City: Foster, Thorp, Dark, Peirson, Smith, Emsden, Abercrombie, Whitehead (Sweeney 82), Wise (Ferreria 70), Strong, Wimble.
Referee: J Keegan (Winchester).
Attendance: 151.
