Wantage MP Robert Jackson has probed the Government on their commitment to preserving the Little Ships of Dunkirk.
A proposal by the Dunkirk Veterans' Trust to preserve examples of the boats was recently turned down by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Little Ships formed the flotilla that sailed from England to Dunkirk in 1940 to rescue Allied soldiers.
The evacuation was recently re-enacted as part of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the evacuation. Mr Jackson said: "In the face of the massive amount of public funds committed to the Millennium Dome, it was a matter of concern to me that a proposal to preserve examples of the Little Ships has been turned down."
The Heritage Lottery Fund has now agreed to review the case to see what can be done to strengthen a further approach for funding.
The Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum have also offered support to the Dunkirk Veterans' Trust. Mr Jackson said: "I very much support the proposal to retain the Little Ships and that when a new funding application is submitted, it will be successful."
