Richard Burns and Banbury's Subaru World Rally team slipped to second place in both the drivers' and manufacturers' categories of the World Rally Championship after the Kidlington driver crashed out of the Neste Rally of Finland.
Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm, who had enjoyed a close tussle with Burns on leg one, went on to win the rally and move into the championship lead, finishing more than a minute ahead of second-placed Colin McRae.
Subaru World Rally Team driver Juha Kankkunen climbed back up the leaderboard to finish eighth and secure the team another two manufacturers' championship points. The Vintage Sports Car Club, based in Chipping Norton, have lined up a team of five exotic aircraft to stage an air show at Racing Green Silverstone on Saturday.
Featuring a Hawker Hurricane, Spitfire, Sea Fury, P51 Mustang, and a Corsair, the display will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The air display is scheduled to last for about 30 minutes during the lunch period.
The most powerful cars ever seen at Standlake Arena will compete on the West Oxfordshire track on Bank Holiday Monday.
Stock cars using 450 horsepower V8 engines, which drink fuel at an alarming gallon a mile, will compete in the Sprint Car 2000 event.
Other events include a 200 banger team race, 100 demolition derby and the circuit's other usual classes. Racing starts at 12 noon.
Proton Team KR rider Luca Cadalora preserved the new Banbury-built Mk3 Modenas KR3's record of points by claiming 15th in the Czech Republic GP.
