If you've left it till now to get your weekend ticket for Reading, you've left it too late. Weekend tickets sold out for Reading a few weeks ago. It's hardly surprising though, as the line-up is without any doubt the strongest of any of this summer's UK-based festivals.
This year sees a band with Oxford connections featuring high up on the bill on consecutive days. But the big draw exclusive to the Carling Weekend is Oasis. Granted, it's a tenuous link but hey, who's counting former Ride and Hurricane #1 guitarist, Oxford's very own Andy Bell, is of course, bassist with one of the world's biggest bands.
Saturday find local boys Medal (their second album Stuntman is set for an early October release) are in the second main support slot on the Carling stage.
Sunday sees The Animal House featuring Mark Gardner and Loz Colbert (ex-Ride) and former frontman of The Mystics, Sam Williams in their line-up are fifth on the Radio One Evening Session's stage on Sunday. As much as we like to brag about our home-grown talent, there are some exciting up-and-coming and well-established acts from, well, all over really.
This year's Carling Weekend features many of them over the three-days.
Tomorrow's highlights at Reading (Monday at Leeds) are Primal Scream, The Foo Fighters, The Bluetones, Limp Bizkit, Doves and Ooberman on the main stage. Muse headline the Radio One stage. Others worth a look being Shed Seven, Crawdaddy, Brassy, King Adora and Orange Can. Saturday at Reading (Leeds, Sunday) sees a joint main stage headline with Pulp and Beck. It's another heavyweight bill which includes Gomez, Super Furry Animals, Elastica, Deftones, Idlewild and the openers Kent are also worth a listen.
Reading returns to its rock roots on Sunday. The Stereophonics headline on the main stage, with Placebo in the main support slot. Sunday day tickets have sold out too probably as it marks ithe only UK festival appearance by Slipknot. Below them on the main stage are Rage Against the Machine, Blink 182, Daphne & Celeste while Cay and main stage openers My Vitriol make it essential to be there from the start. on Sunday (Leeds, Saturday) is the Carling Premier stage. Babybird headline, with Bellatrix in the second-to-headline position. At the time of writing there are still day tickets for Friday and Saturday at Reading available at 33 per day plus booking fee credit card hotline is 08701 500 044.
If you left it too late for a weekend ticket for Reading, there's always the option of Leeds. Tickets are currently still available at 80, plus booking fee.
