Oxford C 5, Staines Tn 0
Rampant City gave their supporters a Bank Holiday treat when they thumped previously unbeaten Staines 5-0 in Ryman Division 1 yesterday, writes Mick Woodley.
After the first 15 minutes, City were always in command and were in no way flattered by the victory margin.
They went ahead in the 22nd minute when Richard Peirson headed home a corner from Shaun Wimble.
Right on half-time, the visitors keeper was unable to hold a thunderbolt from Terry Sweeney, but Andy Smith's cross from the loose ball was scrambled away.
It was one-way traffic after the break and after a Matty Whitehead corner had been cleared off the line, City went 2-0 up in the 64th minute. Peirson's shot was blocked but Strong netted from close range.
City were lucky when Underwood's header rattled their post, but a splendid 25-yard free kick from Matty Whitehead soon made it 3-0.
Substitute Danny Wise hit the fourth with a low drive from 20 yards after being set up by Jemaine Ferreira, and City saved the best till last when Wise netted a perfect chip to finish off a six-man build-up.
