Benetton driver Giancarlo Fisichella has admitted that he still dreams of racing for Ferrari in Formula 1.
The Italian has been re-signed by Benetton to drive with new partner Jenson Button in 2001, but he still regards Ferrari as his national team and says that his ultimate ambition remains to win for the famous squad.
"It's my dream to win the world championship with Benetton, if possible," he said, "but also one day to win it with Ferrari."
Fisichella had a brief opportunity to test for Ferrari five years ago. When the team were looking for a driver to race alongside Michael Schumacher, Fisichella was selected as one of a group of promising Italians who were to be offered a test at Fiorano. At the time, Fisichella was racing for Alfa Romeo in the International Touring Car Championship while carrying out Formula 1 testing for Minardi. The Ferrari test was eventually cancelled when the team signed Eddie Irvine.
More than 100 Grand Prix cars covering much of the 50-year history of Formula 1 world championship racing will compete at a special event to mark the tenth anniversary of Jordan Grand Prix being held at Donington Park on Sunday.
Three races, with a total of 102 entries, have been lined up for the event. In addition, the Benson & Hedges Jordan team will demonstrate a further five Formula 1 cars, including two Jordan Mugen-Honda EJ10s currently driven by Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli in the world championship.
