A dad who is worried his asthmatic son's health will worsen if Oxford's fifth park and ride scheme goes ahead is preparing to protest at a public meeting tomorrow.
David Myers, 49, of Oxford Road, Kidlington, will voice his fear that extra traffic created by the proposed park and ride half a mile from his home will increase pollution and make his son Jonathan's life a misery.
Jonathan, 11, has to use a nebuliser to cope with his asthma. Mr Myers said he believed the new park and ride, near the grain silo off the A34, would increase pollution, traffic congestion and noise near his home. He said: "Jonathan could find it more difficult with extra exhaust fumes during peak hours.
"Before the A34 was built it was terrible with traffic from Banbury coming through here.
"Things eased off with the A34, but a new park and ride would make things worse again.
"It will also add to traffic congestion in Kidlington. It is bad news for Kidlington."
Mr Myers is also unhappy at what he believes are 'inadequate' ideas put forward by the county council to discourage people driving through Kidlington village. The county council, which wants to build an 800-space car park, argues that new measures such as 30mph speed limits should allay residents' fears over increased traffic.
The public meeting takes place at Exeter Hall, Kidlington, from 7.30pm.
