Leyton Pennant 2,
Abingdon Tn 1
Abingdon Town could count themselves unlucky to bow out of the Ryman League Cup at Wadham Lodge last night, writes Phil Evans.
The preliminary round tie against second division Leyton started well for Town, who went ahead in the ninth minute when a good ball into the box was collected by Ben Williams, who beat a defender and scored well.
Abingdon's neat, short passing game was giving Leyton problems, with Richard Twine and Gary Atkins combining well.
At the other end, Abingdon goalkeeper David Jenkins made a superb save from Leyton striker Jamie Richards.
But Town cracked in the 25th minute when a Leyton corner was driven into the box and the ball was deflected into the Abingdon goal by a defender.
Leyton took the lead on the hour when they were awarded a dubious-looking free kick 30 yards out and Jamie Williams crashed home a volley.
Abingdon battled hard for an equaliser, but it proved in vain.
