A decision to allow a town-centre pub to stay open until 2am at weekends is to be reviewed after residents complained about noise, writes Michael Hambleton.
South Oxfordshire District Council agreed in February that an entertainment licence for the Broadways pub could be extended by an hour, despite objections from people living nearby.
When the council approved the application by joint licensees Paul Fench and Jacqueline Sporle, the licensing sub-committee said the decision would be reviewed in six months. Since then, police and council staff have monitored the area. There have been complaints that pub customers keep people awake in Broadway, Station Road, Mereland Road and Haydon Road.
The review will be considered at the next meeting of the licensing sub-committee at the council offices, Crowmarsh, on Thursday, at 2.30pm. The meeting is open to the public.
A council spokesman said: "The review is to examine the extended operating hours of 2am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. "Any observations on the application should be made in writing by September 5 to the district council environmental health service, PO Box 20, Council Offices, Crowmarsh, Wallingford OX10 8NL."
