Chertsey Tn 3, Abingdon Tn 1
Abingdon Town crashed to their fifth consecutive defeat and their second cup exit of the week as they bowed out away to Ryman Division 2 outfit Chertsey. And it was only the heroics of David Jenkins in the Town goal that kept the score to a respectable level as Chertsey striker Marlon Stuart grabbed a hat-trick.
Abingdon could not have complained had they been 4-0 down at half-time as Stuart was clean through on goal four times and only once made it count.
That was in the eighth minute when he intercepted a back-pass from James and scuffed it past Jenkins.
The second half could not have got off to a worse start for Abingdon as, after only two minutes, Stuart again broke clear of the defence. His powerful shot was parried by Jenkins, but the ball bounced agonisingly into the net.
In the 49th minute, Chertsey's Rob French was sent off for stamping on Neil Holman. Abingdon gave themselves hope with 11 minutes left when a cross from the left was turned in by Gary Atkins. But their fate was sealed when they gave the ball away at the back and Stuart raced through to complete his hat-trick.
