The Co-operative College has decided to switch to the Chipping Norton-based Phone Co-op, the UK's only telecom co-operative, writes David Duffy.

The college expects the move to the Phone Co-op will save several thousand pounds a year on both voice and data call costs at Stanford Hall, Lough- borough.

The Phone Co-op is a purchasing co-operative which buys telecom services on behalf of its customers, many of whom are co-operatives, charities and other not-for-profit organisations.

The service has already been taken up by almost 2,000 customers.

They include the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Leeds, Relate, the Woodcraft Folk and the Vegan Society.

Mervyn Wilson, chief executive and principal of the Co-operative College, said: "The contract will result in direct cost savings for the college, while contributing to the growth and business success of another co-operative business a positive example of co-operation between co- operatives."
