Rock band Radiohead are set to overtake the Beatles for the title of best band ever after two of their records made it into the top five of the 1,000 greatest albums.
The Oxford rockers, who first came to prominence with their hit single Creep, have become the first group to seriously threaten the Fab Four in a poll of 200,000 people who were asked to name their favourite LPs.
The now legendary The Bends is the nation's second favourite album, falling just behind the classic Revolver.
Radiohead's last album, OK Computer, is at number four, sandwiched between Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at three and The White Album.
The two albums have sold millions and won worldwide acclaim following the band's first LP, Pablo Honey.
The survey of musicians, writers and fans is carried out every three years. In the last poll the albums were at ten and 21 respectively.
It is the first time the 60s Liverpudlian band's claim to the top spot has been threatened in any poll as they usually dominate all top five spots.
Radiohead's fourth album, Kid A, is released next month and is also set to become a worldwide multi-million seller.
