A Man has been released on police bail in connection with an alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl at St Giles' Fair, in Oxford.
Police arrested the 31-year-old man from Norwich after the alleged attack at a raffle stall, near the Martyrs Memorial in St Giles, Oxford, at about 11.30pm on Monday.
Between 60,000 and 70,000 people were estimated to have attended the fair that night in one of the busiest days on record for the event.
Chief steward of the fair John Nichols said: "I really can't believe it happened as it is completely out of character for fairs.
"I have never heard of anything like this before in our business.
St Giles is a very strict and well run fair and this has cast a shadow over it."
City council fair co-ordinator Mike Newman said he was aware of an alleged incident and police were investigating.
