For the second year in succession Harley Davidson have introduced a new bike to their UK range, writes John Gilbride.
Hot on the heels of last year's new model the Deuce, the Milwaukee motorcycle giants have added a new model to their Dyna range.
The Dyna Super Glide T-Sport is based around the popular Super Glide Sport and shows changes designed to take Harley well into the new millennium.
The new lightweight bike combines the power of the Twin Cam 88 engine with a number of adjustable features designed to give the bike individual flair. Most notable are the fully adjustable front and rear suspension, adjustable tinted windscreen, ballistic nylon saddlebags and a long distance comfort seat.
A further feature of the T-Sport and in fact every 2000 Harley model apart, from the Sportsters, is a dealer fitted security system designed specifically for their bike. The remote controlled factory system immobilises the bike via the starter motor and fuel system and should cut down the chances of some light-fingered Neanderthal nicking your pride and joy. The system can be fitted with an alarm or a pager and can also be retrofitted to earlier models.
Still on the Dyna range the Low Rider, which has been part of the Harley family for as long as I can remember, has also been improved.
The bike's suspension has been redesigned and lowered, pull back risers and a new low-slung seat all contribute to the long and low look. With these latest introductions there are now five members of the Dyna family.
On the road prices start at 9,495, with the T-Sport coming in at 11,195.
Other improvements for 2001 include cruise control as standard on all Touring models and electronic fuel injection, which is to be optional on all Softail models.
As well as offering better power drive, EFI means bye-bye to those cold early morning coughs and splutters as the bike warms up naturally without the choke.
All of these improvements come at no extra cost to the customer. On the road prices have been held at last year's levels and you can still buy the entry level Sportster for under five grand now that can't be bad can it?
