Morrells Oxford Sunday League round-up
Confusion reigned on the season's opening day with fixtures having to be cancelled with a dozen sides failing to register a side seven days before the kick-off, writers Geoff Bower.
Although most of these clubs have now registered a side, a few have been given further time to raise a team.
Apathy among players seems to be the major problem, along with their lack of understanding of the efforts being made by club officials to administer their club properly and maintain a reasonable level of football.
Of the 19 games played, two of the clubs promoted to the Premier Division had a good day with AFC Jericho holding Blackbird Leys (Sunday) FC, formerly Leafield, to a 1-1 draw and Star Royal coming away from Mansfield Road with a 2-1 victory on their return to the top flight.
In Division 4, Warren Bustin and Billy Geddes hit hat-tricks as Magdalen Arms carried on where they left off last year with a comfortable 6-1 victory over visitors Mansfield Road Res.
Geddes's treble was made up of two bullet headers and a long-range strike.
Chequers went one better in Division 5, thrashing visitors Bush Rangers 7-1.
Chequers went into the half-time break 3-1 in front and a further two goals soon after the interval killed off Rangers.
A great team effort saw Mark Simms grab a brace, while Kevin Walters, Chris Janes, Carl Osgathorp, Steven Kennet and Daryl Wichall hit one each.
