A furniture company which has been trading in Witney for more than 100 years has refurbished its showroom, writes Suzanne Huband.

Anthony Barrell started trading in Witney's Market Square in 1895 as a drapers, men's outfitter and furnisher. After the First World War he was joined by his son Wesley and in 1934 moved to a factory site in Bridge Street, Witney.

Much of that site has been redeveloped for housing after the factory moved to new workshops at Ducklington Mill. The company now sells from its own 19 showrooms around the country.

The newly refurbished showroom has more than 5,000 square feet displaying sofas, sofa-beds and armchairs as well as other furniture, including wooden beds.

The company is still owned by the same family, under the management of Wesley's son Peter Barrell, his wife Francoise, and their daughters Juliette, Eugenie and Isabel.
