Banbury's former international lock Derwyn Jones seems set to miss their Tetley Bitter Cup preliminary round tie against Dorchester at Bodicote Park tomorrow because of injury, writes Michael Knox.

The 6ft 10in Welshman, whose clearance papers only came through this week, has a back strain.

With a long season ahead, the Bulls will be reluctant to play him if he is not fully fit.

However, the Oxfordshire Cup holders will leave their options open until the last minute by naming Jones as a replacement.

Banbury's skipper and scrum-half Tony Hurst, and winger Stuart Viggers, are both on wedding duty, while No 8 Rob Cockerton is ruled out by injury.

Nick Oliver dons the No 9 shirt, and Simon Williams comes in on the wing. Steve Clarke, who came off the bench early in the high-scoring victory over Barkers Butts last week, continues at No 8.

The other changes are Graeme Cartmell in the centre for the work-tied Bruce Riddell, and the versatile Ed Cummings is selected at flanker, replacing Takashi Ono.

Former England player and coach Mike Davis is in charge at Dorchester, who play in South West Division 1.
