A village may get a new sub-post office although it could be months away.
Blewbury's former post office and stores at Church End closed on August 8, although three people are understood to have shown "serious interest" in re-opening a post office.
Post Office Counters spokesman Mike Dalton: "A lot of effort has gone into finding someone to take over in the village. "The parish council has been involved in looking at locations for premises it may mean putting up a new building. Unfortunately because the arrangement would need to be viable in the long-term, it may take several months," said Mr Dalton.
Mr Dalton said no formal application for the position had yet been received. No-one from the parish council was available to comment.
The former post office closed because postmistress Elizabeth Leyshon, who ran it with her daughter Helen Hamblin, said she was moving away from the area and there were problems over renewing the lease. Blewbury's loss was neighbouring East Hagbourne's gain as Miss Hamblin took over that village's post office after sub-postmistress Elaine Morgan quit after only three months. She is now looking to expand the premises.
