Thousands of leaflets will be delivered to villagers asking for their views on traffic problems.
Kidlington Parish Council wants to take some traffic responsibility in the village, including painting of double yellow lines, away from Oxfordshire County Council. It is asking residents for their views.
Joyce Ruiz, a former parish council chairman who is on the traffic survey committee, said taking responsibility for some traffic issues would help sort out problems like congestion. She said: "The problem is that if everything is left to the county council, nothing gets done.
"We know what the traffic problems in Kidlington are and by taking charge of some of the responsibilities, we may get them solved."
Mrs Ruiz urged residents to fill in their survey forms, which are due to be sent out in the next few months, so that councillors know what the problem areas are. A public meeting will also be held in the new year so that residents can air their views about traffic issues. However, Colin Carritt, the county council's engineer for Kidlington, said it was unlikely that the parish council would be granted additional traffic regulatory powers.
*The public inquiry into plans by Stagecoach to build a new bus depot at Langford Locks, south of Station Fields industrial estate, Kidlington, resumed yesterday. Residents oppose the plan, which they said would bring traffic problems and pollution to the village. A decision on whether to overturn the refusal of planning permission is expected in about three months.
