JAMIE Cook and Manny Omoyinmi have been drafted back into Oxford United's squad for today's Division 2 game against Wrexham at the Manor Ground, and one of them looks like taking over from Guy Whittingham in attack, writes JON MURRAY.
That could be Cook, who did well for the reserves at Cheltenham in the week. Omoyinmi, a free transfer signing from West Ham in the summer, is still looking for his first goal for the club.
Wrexham look set to be without their six-goal leading scorer Hector Sam, who has been suffering from "disorientation", related to altitude sickness, after playing in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City last weekend.
Sam, a Trinidad & Tobago international, was called up by his country for the World Cup qualifier against the Mexicans and came on as a substitute in a 7-0 defeat.
Wrexham boss Brian Flynn was upset at the call-up, and the fact that Sam had little altitude preparation before the game.
He returned to play in a midweek reserve match, but was reportedly hopeless, and complained about feeling disorientated.
Wrexham are unbeaten away in all competitions this season.
Their key player is former Wolves midfielder Darren Ferguson, son of Manchester United boss Alex, and up front they have Chris Killen, on loan from Manchester City, who is likely to replace Sam alongside Craig Faulconbridge.
"They're a team that pass the ball and play good football, and Ferguson is the one that makes them tick," said U's coach Mickey Lewis.
Our players have looked quite lively in training. The first couple of days after the Swindon game they were a bit down, because they really felt they should have got something out of the game, but they've picked themselves up."
Caretaker manager Mike Ford is expected to stick largely to the side which unluckily lost at Swindon, and that will mean a home league debut for right back Sam Ricketts.
