Pupils have won their campaign for a safe crossing over a busy road on their route to school.
More than 50 children at Southwold Primary School in Bicester wrote letters appealing to county councillors to install a pelican crossing in Southwold Lane.
Children and their mothers have to cross the road to reach the school in Holm Square from their homes in the nearby village of Caversfield. Some parents even drive their children to the school to save their youngsters from having to cross Southwold Lane - part of the town's ring road.
A year ago county councillors agreed to reconsider the need for a crossing in addition to a traffic island at a round- about. Later on it was decided to increase the size of the traffic island.
But now the county council has found it has the money to put in a pelican crossing at a cost of about 26,000.
Headteacher Paula Protherough said: "It is fantastic news. If the pupils' letters and the publicity they received has helped to achieve something for the community we are all pleased."
