Tate Hulbert has denied that he was shown the door by Oxford City for disciplinary reasons and that it was his own decision to leave the club.
The 25-year-old striker parted company with the Ryman League Division 1 outfit last week with manager Paul Lee saying he had been released after failing to turn up to play for the reserves.
But Hulbert said: "No-one on the committee or the management team said my services were not required or that it was because of disciplinary reasons that I was leaving the club.
"I made the decision to leave even before the reserve team game. I didn't see eye to eye with the management team."
Swindon-based Hulbert added that he had received several approaches from clubs in Berkshire and Gloucestershire, but had not yet accepted an offer.
