Eynsham have got off to a flying start in the Oxford & District League and lead the pack, having picked up five points out of a possible six, writes DICK HASHMAN.

This week they beat Newtrim 2-1, despite losing the opening game when Norman Woodcock (+90) beat Geoff Watson (+110) 150-98. But Mick McCluskey (+110) beat Simon Aries (-50) 200-153 and then Ken Leach (+110) beat Bob Chivers (-10) 200-175.

Ashton beat Oracle 2-1 and they too lost the opening game when Lee Stopps (+70) pipped Nobby Noble (+110) 150-143.

Neil Brayshaw (+90) levelled, beating Ted Milsom (+90) 150-144 and Terry Chambers (-10) won the match for Ashton beating Jack Woods (+80) 200-151.

Rileys A picked up their first points when they beat HCC 2-1. Dave Morgan (+60) beat John Williams (+80) 150-99 but Roger Caenen (+70) lost to Geoff Barrett (+100) 115-150, with the latter making a useful 28 break.

In the decider, Warner Page (+100) played very well to beat Terry Walsh (+60) 150-86.

New Club, who were runaway winners of Division 2 last season, won their second consecutive match 2-1, beating Rileys B. George Washington (+80) beat Keith Maskens (+70) 150-123, but Andy Moss (+110) fell 124-150 to Ron Beament (+60).

In the decider, Justin Shepherd (+100) whipped Alan Copelin (+90) 150-82.

Morris Motors visited CCC A and came away with a 2-1 win while Crown House, playing their first match, beat Witney by the same score.
