Police are anxious to trace three people who gave a helping hand to a man who was assaulted.
The 32-year-old man was walking home on the footpath across Henry Box School playing fields in Witney between 11pm and 11.30pm on Friday when he was attacked from behind, punched around the head and knocked to the ground. He does not recall seeing any of the attackers.
Three people then helped him home, but he does not know who they were.
The following day he went to hospital for treatment for injuries to his face.
WPc Diane Blackmore-Heal said: "The assault was apparently motiveless and unprovoked. The victim was hurt and shocked.
"There were a number of people in the area at the time, including the people who helped him out. We would like to trace them because they may be able to point us towards the attackers."
Anyone with any information can call Witney police station on 01993 893850.
