Shared Experience Theatre company bring their expressionistic approach to Ibsen's classic drama, A Doll's House, at the Oxford Playhouse from Tuesday 17 October, writes Chris Gray.

Polly Teale's directorial concept for this translation by Michael Meyer is to delve deep into the psyche of Ibsen's heroine, Nora, in her fight for emotional survival within the confines of her domestic idyll particularly when the outside world threatens to destroy her. Beneath the apparent social realism lurks a nightmare of fear and a sense of crisis.

The all-star cast includes Paterson Joseph, best known for his role as Mark Grace in BBC1's Casualty.

The production is designed by Angela Davis, with lighting by Tina MacHugh. Music is provided by Gary Yershon.

Performances continue until Saturday, with a post-show talk on Wednesday. See theatre listings.
