Community fairs and music events in Oxford's parks are being planned for next year.

The full list will be discussed by Oxford City Council's leisure services committee on Monday and some discussion will be given over to the pros and cons of this year's timetable.

The Balloon Fiesta, which took place at South Park, and Leys Fair were highlighted as notable successes of the year.

In a report to the committee, Andrew Parsons, of the City Works department, said next year's timetable would be split into two distinct groups to identify the separate community and parks events.

He added: "The events team facilitate a high-quality and varied programme of events for the city to enjoy. They range from community partnership events to large events attracting tens of thousands of people. "The events for 2001 will again be marketed under the umbrella of Fun in the Parks, as this name has a strong identity. The local community are also familiar with this term and it allows for a consistent marketing approach."

The report stated the aims of 2001's timetable, such as giving Oxford a high profile, quality annual events, providing support to community groups and to maximise the talent of Oxford people.

Events include:

*Balloon Fiesta South Park (May)

*Canal Festival Aristotle Lane (June)

*Fox FM Party in the Park (August)

*Film in the Parks (various)

*Jericho Street Fair (June)

*Cutteslowe Fun Day (July)

*Barton Carnival (Sep- tember).
