Swindon GWR have been given a November 30 deadline by the Classic Press Cherwell League to confirm they will be able to take up their place in next season's competition.

GWR, whose first team are due to line up in Division 4 next season alongside clubs including Morris Motors, Didcot and Wallingford, are involved in a battle over their ground.

The club have told the league that the British Rail Staff Association which runs the sports club and site have been given notice to quit by the consortium which bought the land in 1977.

GWR are looking into the legal aspects of the notice, and are at the same time actively seeking alternative premises which would need league approval.

League secretary Peter Fenn said that they were dealing with the matter as sympathetically as they could.

However, they have set a deadline November 30 is the date of the league's annual meeting as they need to start compiling next year's fixtures. GWR 2nds are due to play in Division 7 next year alongside sides including Abingdon Vale 2nd, Cropredy 2nd, Horspath 2nd, Bletchingdon 2nd, Thame 2nd, Chalgrove 2nd and Oxford Downs 2nd.

Meanwhile, there have been no developments on whether Cherwell champions Banbury Twenty will be taking up their place in the Home Counties League Western Feeder Division.

The Home Counties League are expected to seek assurances from Twenty that their new pavilion will be up and running before the start of next season before making a decision.

Twenty will be presented with their trophy at the league's presentation evening at the Spread Eagle Hotel, Thame tomorrow (7.30).
