A modern interpretation of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest including musicians and tap-dancers will entertain audiences at Wallingford's revamped Corn Exchange next week, starting on Tuesday, October 24 at 7.45pm.
The Sinodun Players will be performing the witty late-Victorian classic in modern costume, using coloured light projected on to drapes as a stage set. Actors will remain in full view of the audience throughout even when they are not in a scene sat round the edge of a raised square stage.
Marilyn "Maz" Johnstone, of The Street, Crowmarsh, plays the snobbish Lady Bracknell and must carry off the much-anticipated exclamation "A handbag!" when told her nephew was found in a handbag at Reading station as a baby.
She said: "This production is going to be great fun. We're concentrating on relationships between characters."
Director, Patrick Leavey, said he had added a troupe of seven dancers, accompanied by a trio of musicians, to link scenes. Call the box office on 01491 825000 for tickets.
