Abingdon's oldest printer, Abbey Press, has invested more than 1m in new technology to cope with increased demand, writes Sarah Parker.
Mike Edwards, chairman of the Edwards Graphic Communications group, which bought Abbey Press two years ago, said the investment was particularly significant following the closure of neighbouring printer Bezier Burgess.
He said he hoped the investment in Abbey Press would promote a new confidence in the printing industry as well as local business. "Our new management team has been working closely with Abbey's existing team building a foundation for the future. During this period we have all been delighted with the improvement in the company's performance, which is reflected in our turnover."
Turnover has increased 40 per cent, and since the acquisition two years ago, the workforce has increased from 28 to 50. The new investment could also mean more jobs.
