Originally from Aylesbury, Twister started life as The Poptarts, until a certain breakfast cereal company took exception to their use of the name, writes Honey Townsend.
The glam-trash five-piece released their first few singles on local-ish label Rotatar Records, before moving to Damaged Goods where the single, It's A Dog's Life, attracted the attention and support of John Peel.
The cover made as much of an impact as the record itself but the less said about that, the better.
Twister have been described as 'The Buzzcocks meet These Animal Men, with a side order of The Sweet'. They have a stunning array of three-minute nuggets of pure pop in their arsenal of guitar 'n' keyboard-fuelled songs.
Twister's long-awaited debut album, Mums, Dads & Ladyboys has finally been released after a series of hold-ups. Tonight (with new guitarist Brutus) they will showcase tracks from the album as they headline at the monthly Snakebite City Nite at The Kooler at The Bullingdon, Cowley Road.
"We did wonder if the album would actually come out. The various hold-ups did have us wondering," saysTwister's livewire frontman Matt.
Clichd though it is, the phrase 'good things come to those who wait' applies perfectly to Twister's long-awaited debut album.
"It's been a while since we've played live. It'll be a bit strange to start with, but we're all looking forward to the tour Oxford is one of our favourite places," he adds.
The album is a collection of Twister 'classics' such as Teenage Pregnancy, Holiday and Dog's Life, as well as the first outing for the longtime live favourite Brown Paper Bag all mixed up with some newer songs.
