Antiquarian bookseller Albi Rosenthal, as he remarks in more than one of the lectures and interviews collected in this volume, is best known to the general public as the father of ITV sports presenter Jim Rosenthal. However, in international music circles he is known as an expert on the authenticity of manuscripts and as a collector and dealer. This volume, which also includes articles and reviews he has written for specialist journals, started as a slim work to celebrate his 85th birthday, but has grown to encompass his fascinating life, which included the setting up of a music room at his Boars Hill house, where musicians such as Jeremy Menuhin and Stanley Weiner performed private concerts. He writes on fakes and frauds, as well as the pleasure of tracking down a genuine discovery, in a way that allows any music lover to understand the fascination of collecting.
