Bookham Technology has become the first European firm to achieve a new world quality standard for the telecoms industry, writes David Duffy.
The British Standards Institute recognised the achievement of the company, based at Milton Park, near Abingdon, at the QuEST (Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications Leadership) Forum meeting held in London.
TL 9000 registration aims to provide a worldwide quality benchmark for the telecommunications industry, eliminating the need for compliance to varied industry standards around the world.
Russell Johnson, Director of Quality Systems at Bookham, which is Oxfrodshire's Business of the Year, said: "Everyone at Bookham Technology is very proud to be the first European based company to achieve TL 9000 registration. This recognition demonstrates our continuing commitment to quality in all that we do."
The QuEST Forum, of which Bookham Technology is a member, was formed in 1996 by leading telecommunications service providers including Bell Atlantic, Pacific Bell and Southwestern Bell.
