Wallingford stayed top of the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Division 1 table with this home victory with a tension-packed finale.
Outside half Alastair Reay made space to cross for a try and then set Henry Venners free in his own 22 for a fine individual score. Venners converted both tries and added a penalty to put Wallingford 17-3 ahead at half-time.
They increased their lead mid-way through the second period, captain Phil Carter capitalising on a long clearance upfield to cross for his team's third try.
Thatcham reacted with a period of intense pressure on the home line and scored two unconverted tries to set up a tense final ten minutes.
